How to Take Down the AAWA! (For those that have been hurt by that org)
by HintOfLime in(if you're tired of aawa threads, please be aware, this is an aawa thread.).
sadly - there are people who have been negatively affected by the aawa, and like other organizations, the aawa made protecting it's name and reputation a priority over helping and protecting the people it should have been trying to help.
like other organizations, they won't discuss the issues publicly with the community, insisting instead on discussions behind closed doors and "getting the names" of people expressing concerns.. .

My Final Goodbye
by Lady Lee ini want to start by saying i will not participate in discussion here about my resignation as a moderator at jwn.. simon please consider this as my resignation from that position.. i have been posting on this board for almost 12 years.
i know some of you a lot, others a little and some not very well at all.
i have remained here for those of you who have needed support as you make the transition out of the wts, who needed someone to listen to your experiences of abuse at the hands of jehovah's witnesses, and to both laugh and cry with you as you progress out of the watchtower society.. we know that we have all experienced the cruelty of abuse of one kind or another.

Re: My Final Goodbye
Was that goodbye meant to be understood as 'I will no longer be moderating here' or 'I will no longer be posting here'?

Public Apology Nathan Natas
by Simon ini'd like to offer a public apology to nathan natas for making a wrong decision when i deleted him.. i allowed a combination of previous issues we'd had and input from other forum members to bias my decision which lead me to what i now, in hindsight, believe to have been a mistake.. whether you want to come back and post here or not i wanted to at least say sorry and will reactivate your account..

Finally sanity prevails. Thank you Simon for being humble enough to acknowledge past errors. Thank you Slim Boy Fat for returning to the board even though you were wronged. It takes time sometimes for people to recognize the difference between a leader and a self-serving, attention-whore, manipulator.

A Mormon becomes a JW in the Feb 2013 Watchtower...
by cedars inglancing through the feb 2013 "public" watchtower edition, an interesting article appears on page 8.. here is the pdf download link.... http://www.jw.org/download/?fileformat=pdf&issue=20130201&output=html&pub=wp&langwritten=e&option=trgchlzrqvnyvrxf&txtcmslang=e.
it's interesting how, in the story, the young man's jw aunt and uncle switch him from mormonism to the jw faith using third-party material (the nov 8, 1995 awake!
article), and he ends up becoming a jw after confirming on the official mormon website that the claims in the awake!

Excellent summary! Thank you for sharing your perspective Qcmbr.
Having read the posts from some present and former LDS members it's clear many feel damaged by their experience with Mormonism.

If the 'slave class' spoke in the first person, would it change how people viewed them?
by sd-7 insometimes i think about stuff i read in watchtower literature and wonder if it would be received differently if it was just like, one guy with a bible, ranting as he paced back and forth amongst the jws.
"it's abundantly clear that jesus selected me to be his channel of communication with mankind.
don't you see the proof?

OMG SD your writing is phemoninal!
You should have a column in the papers and be syndicated across the country. I sincerely hope JWN readers are not the only ones treated to your wit.

"newbie" post - after eight years registered
by pajaha inactually, this is my second post as i replied to a thread a few moments ago, but it turns out i originally registered eight years ago but had never posted.. i left in 2000 (from a newport, s wales, congregation) having been brought up in it from about the age of three.
initially, i was obsessed with research and posting to forums but got over it after a few years and just rediscovered this site a couple of days ago.
i just thought it would be worth posting my account of leaving in case it helped others.. i always considered myself to be "strong in the truth" and genuinely believed it,, but i suppose the amount of suppressed doubts had been mounting up and i think it was the summer of 1999 when i first thought of leaving.

I know what you mean pajaha! I feel slighted that my family makes no real attempts to 'save' me. It's like they just gave me up as a lost cause after a few conversations but are still willing to spend countless hours knocking on the same uninterested and sometimes beligerent strangers doors week after week. On the other hand when they make the slightest comment in my hearing that reveals that they still think they have the truth I get so irritated. It's a lose-lose situation :-/

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm so happy that your parents were able to walk away from it too.
I don't think fading necessarily means lying about your beliefs though. I was able to tell the elders at my last sheparding call (the week I stopped attending meetings) that I couldn't reconcile a wise, just and loving god with most of what was written about Jehovah in the bible. I told my (elder) brother the same and even told my mom that I was agnostic. They made it clear that they would not hear more of what I had to say on 'spritual matters' after that. So I guess you can say I did an expedited fade. I am no longer close to my family but we do have a cordial relationship now. When I'm in the old neighborhood and happen to run into a JW I used to know or be friends with they are civil and don't feel the need to shun me.
The decision to leave was the most difficult decision of my life as well.

Disfellowshipping/dissassociating vs. fading?
by lostinthought inok, advise needed my friends!
the idea of fading sounds really nice to me and i would love to do it, but i'm just a big "chicken" and can't bring myself to stop all the jw nonsense.
i continue going to meetings and service out of some sort of fear, i know if i start missing too many people will be bothering me with phone calls and visits and such and they will sucker me into toing back.

You can always convert from a fade to a DF or DA if you should decide that fading is too much of a hassle or it does not give you the closure you seek. No one gets to convert from DF/DA to a fade though. A very small number get to reverse their DFing on appeal... Remember that the reinstatement process can be brutal especially if you want to maintain your dignity or your integrity as a free thinker.
Keep in mind that the benefits of fading may be limited by the degree to which family members and friends will view an 'inactive' Witness as bad association; they may avoid you anyways. Most likely though you'll find that relationships evaporate because you and they will realize that you have little in common when you're no longer on the Watchtower treadmill of 'theocratic activities.'.
